Terms of Service
Last updated: 1 March 2026
1. Acceptance
By accessing or using PairChess (“the platform”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.
2. Description of service
PairChess is a marketplace that connects chess students with verified chess coaches. We facilitate introductions and bookings; we are not a party to the lesson itself. The student and teacher are solely responsible for the content and conduct of their sessions.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use PairChess. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has consented to your use of the platform.
4. Accounts
- You may only create one account per person.
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.
- You must provide accurate information when registering or applying as a teacher.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
5. Teacher applications
When you apply to become a teacher on PairChess:
- All information you submit must be accurate and truthful.
- We verify credentials independently; submitting false information will result in immediate rejection or removal.
- Acceptance is at our sole discretion. We may reject any application without explanation.
- Approved teachers may be removed at any time if they breach these terms or if student feedback falls below our standards.
6. Bookings and payments
- Booking requests are a commitment to attend at the agreed time.
- Your first lesson with any teacher is 20% off as an introductory offer. There are no ongoing platform fees — students and teachers are free to continue lessons outside of PairChess after the first session.
- Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations may be charged in full at the teacher's discretion.
- Payment processing is handled by third-party providers. PairChess does not store payment card details.
7. Prohibited conduct
You may not:
- Use the platform for any unlawful purpose.
- Harass, abuse, or threaten other users.
- Post false reviews or misrepresent your identity or qualifications.
- Scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the platform in an automated way.
8. Intellectual property
All content on PairChess — including the design, code, copy, and branding — is owned by PairChess or its licensors. You may not reproduce or distribute any part of the platform without prior written permission.
9. Disclaimers
The platform is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any coach credentials displayed, though we make reasonable efforts to verify them. We are not liable for the quality or outcome of any lesson.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, PairChess shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid to PairChess in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong SAR. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice on the site. Continued use of the platform after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
